Celebration of the 200th anniversary of Chopin's birth.
Anthony Smith, piano, plays selections from Chopin’s polonaises and mazurkas.
This year is the 200th anniversary of Frédéric Chopin’s birth. Although Chopin was born in Warsaw in 1810 he has strong links to France, her people and culture. A Polish patriot, he used the French form of his name – Frédéric François Chopin. Chopin lived half his life in France arriving there in September 1831, living mainly in Paris but also in Nohant. He became a French citizen in 1834 and died in Paris on 17 October 1849. He was buried at the Père-Lachaise Cemetery.

On Friday 22 October at 8:00pm, the Alliance Française will present a Chopin concert featuring pianist Anthony Smith playing selected polonaises and mazurkas. Anthony Smith has performed in Australia, England, Germany, and the USA. He made his concerto début in Canberra in 2005, playing Schumann’s concerto with the National Capital Orchestra. In May 2008 he appeared as soloist in Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy with Canberra Choral Society.
