Francophonie Market 2025

It's the "Semaine de la Francophonie", or Francophonie Week! This event, created in 1995 by the French Ministry of Culture, aims to highlight our linguistic heritage through a variety of cultural and educational events every year.

On Friday 21 March, join us for the Francophonie Market as we celebrate francophone cultures and countries at the Alliance Française of Canberra.

Enjoy free food, drinks and activities from around the world - Belgium, Canada, France, Lebanon, Switzerland and Uruguay will be represented.

Grab a Francophonie Market Passport at the beginning of the market and collect stamps from every stall to try and win a special prize.

4pm: Market opens
4:30pm: Presentation to ACT Primary schools for their presentations of Francophone countries (AFC main hall)
4:45 PM: Presentation to ACT Secondary School for the contest ‘Dis-moi dix mots’ (AFC main hall)
5:30pm: Presentation of DELF/DALF certificates (AFC main hall)
5:30pm: Raffle draw (AFC stall)
6pm: Market closes

Is entry to the Francophonie Market free?

Yes, entry to our Francophonie Market is free for all visitors.

Is the Francophonie Market accessible?

The interior of the Alliance is accessible for people with reduced mobility through the main.

However, the Embassies stalls will be outdoors. Some will be located on the grass in front of the Alliance, which may not be accessible depending on the type of mobility aid used. Other stalls will be on pavement, which is more accessible.

Please consider your needs when planning your visit, and feel free to contact us if you have any questions or require further assistance.

Is there parking available?

There is no on-site parking at the Francophonie Market. We recommend carpooling or using public transport. If you drive, please park legally in the surrounding suburbs and allow extra time to walk to the event. Please pay attention to road signs to ensure you're parking in permitted areas.

It is essential to park responsibly to ensure community safety and avoid penalties.

Are pets allowed?

Pets are allowed but must be on a leash at all times. Please keep in mind that some areas may be crowded.

Are there toilets available at the Market?

Yes, there are accessible toilets available inside the Alliance on both sides of the building. You can follow the signs to find them easily.

How do I participate in the raffle?

You can enter the raffle by getting a Francophonie Market passport at the entrance of the event and getting it stamped by each Embassy stall on the day of the Market.
Winners will be announced at 5:45 pm.

Will staff and vendors speak English?

Yes, all stalls and staff will primarily speak English, even though the market is themed around Francophone culture. However, we encourage you to practice your French with us if you'd like!
