Come to discover thought provoking short films by French and Australian artists united in the fight to protect our oceans, and then enjoy a discussion afterwards with the panelists.

Beaujolais Wine Tasting

Thursday 20 November - 6PM to 8:30PM

Join us for an interactive (and tasty!) wine tasting experience featuring a selection of wines from our partner M. Chapoutier, who will personally guide you through the tasting.

Because wine pairs best with great food, we’ll be serving a delicious platter of cheese and charcuterie to accompany your glass.

To top it off, enjoy the jazzy vibes of live music by The Odd Couple throughout the evening!

Café scientifique - La France dans le Pacifique

Join us for a new edition of our Café scientifique !

Come to meet no less than five captivating speakers : Dr Eric Frécon, captain Jean-René Degans, Dr Frédéric Grare, Dr Jean-Marie Kowalski and the lieutenant colonel François Nozaic!

They will lead an insightful bilingual talk both in English and French to discuss France's diplomatic framework in the Pacific, France–Australia relationship, the military and naval stakes for France in the region... Lots of fascinating topics ahead - and no submarines we promise - !

Paris & les Pays du Sud - Exhibition by John Firth

From Monday 20 October to 7 November
Opening on Monday 20 October at 6:30pm

From 20 October, come to the Alliance Française to discover the stunning work of artist and architect John Firth!

For three weeks, we’ll be showcasing over 50 of his watercolour and oil paintings portraying Paris and the South of France, and drawing connections to legendary artists such as Picasso, Cézanne, and many more who found inspiration in these iconic regions.

Meet John Firth at the opening evening on Monday, 20 October from 6:30pm, held at our premises.

On August 7, the Alliance Française is bringing two French winter classics to Canberra: the tartiflette and a screening of our beloved Les Bronzés font du ski!

For the first time at the Alliance Française, the Café Scientifique will kick off with a breakdance-inspired Hip Hop performance by the local dance studio Dance Central.

This event is organised by the Australian-French Association for Research and Innovation (AFRAN) in partnership with Alliance Française Canberra and the University of Canberra Research Institute for Sport and Exercise (UCRISE).


Emerging artists exhibition

EASS EXHIBITION 2024

Returning this year, the EASS Awards, in collaboration with the ANU School of Art & Design, will showcase three emerging artists.

Running from Thursday, 1 August to Friday, 16 August, discover the captivating universe and stunning paintings of David Healey, Natasha Miller, and Ajith Perera.

Join us on opening night from 7 pm on Thursday, 1 August to meet the artists and enjoy free drinks and snacks.

Mother and daughter, Isabelle and Melanie have been creating together through their art studio.
Inspired by Australia's landscape and their French heritage
, their style reflects their passion for life.
Through their art, they seek to express and share the joy they experience when connecting with nature and the world around us.

Family Business - a killer comedy by Lightbulb Improv!

Watch as these talented performers create a twisted tale of murder and dark family deeds as inspired by you. Before the show, you decide who the killer is, and why. Then sit back and enjoy the ride as Lightbulb improvises the rest – no script, no rules, no limits. Just criminal thrills, family drama and plenty of laughs.

Lightbulb Improv is Canberra’s premiere improvised comedy ensemble. Since 2016, Lightbulb has delighted audiences with their unique flavour of warm, funny and spontaneous theatre.

EASS exhibition Opening Night - POESIS

We are very proud to present this year's EASS exhibition, in collaboration with ANU School of Art and Design, called POESIS. 

From 31 July to 18 August, five ANU graduate artists will present their artwork at the Alliance Francaise of Canberra. Paintings, glassware, sculptures and more will be exhibited at our gallery.

Movie Night - THE WHEELS OF THE FUTURE

Come to discover this french documentary that promotes the role of bicycles in urban, environmental and social transition.
 A movie that should make viewers want to saddle up.

The screening will be followed by a discussion with one of the producers and the founder of the association Canberra by Bike.
